Today I encountered a cleverly deployed Facebook application by the company Slide.com I don't want to bother waisting my time researching what Slide.com does, as I was more impressed with their Facebook marketing tactic. I received some sort of Superpoke, or poke, from some beautiful girl that wanted to share something with me. I clicked accept to "share" something with her (and when I say share, my brain shut off, and her beautiful body, enticed me to click without thinking) and the next thing I new, I was being prompted to install software. There was a list of subsets of the software that I could either install or not install. My alarms went off when the application said that it could only be installed if EVERYTHING was installed.
Before I knew it, I had clicked yes, and the entire platform was installed on my profile. The beauty of this program is not so much in what it does, but how it installs and spreads across Facebook like a horrible virus, overcomming user after user. I could care less what Slide.com does as I know it certainly isn't going to make me any money, only the owners. Therefore, I am only interested in how Slide.com is quickly spreading among millions of infected Facebook users. I recall hearing someone say that slide.com was purchased for quite a large sum by a private equity firm. Wow, viruses ( a.k.a strategic marketing deployment) sure can produce quite a bit of profit for its planners.
